Developer API: Cell-Based Location Service

Using the PointShift Cell Based Location API, your application can request the location of an authorised mobile device.  The latitude and longitude co-ordinates or postal address information can be returned for display in your own system.

PointShift Cell Location API

Organisations have long understood the need to optimise the use of their assets in the search for improved efficiency and reduced costs.

Location checks for mobile phones located in cities can be as close as 100 metres.  In rural areas the accuracy can decrease to several kilometres in some cases, depending on the range of the network.

Authorised users of the CellSearch Location API can programmatically submit positioning requests for a specified mobile number via a custom application using TCP/IP and Internet protocols. This is accomplished by using the HTTP protocol to submit an XML packet containing the relevant data structure to the PointShift Cell Location Services gateway servers.

API Features

You can connect to this service using a simple XML API over an internet connection.

Location Process

Mobile numbers must be approved on the PointShift CellSearch platform before they can be located.  Retrieving the position of an approved mobile device is a two-step process.

First a request is placed and in response to this request a Transaction ID and Response Code are returned. Then the result of an accepted location request is then posted back to your application.
